Afreximbank, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Authority have established a Joint Project Preparation Facility aimed at moving selected projects in the country’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme towards bankability.
The 24H+ Authority currently values the wider investment pipeline at approximately $11.5 billion. Afreximbank and GIIF will pilot the project-preparation intervention with an initial contribution of $5 million each, creating a $10 million pool for eligible technical, financial, legal and advisory work.
Closing the gap before financing
Large infrastructure and industrial projects often require extensive preparation before lenders and investors can assess and finance them. Feasibility work, engineering, legal structuring and financial modelling can therefore determine whether an announced project becomes an investable transaction.
Under the tripartite arrangement, the 24H+ Authority will originate strategic projects and coordinate government stakeholders, GIIF will contribute local infrastructure-investment expertise and Afreximbank will provide project-preparation and capital-mobilisation capabilities. Projects will be jointly screened and prioritised.
An $11.5 billion pipeline, not committed capital
The $11.5 billion figure represents the estimated value of the wider 24H+ investment pipeline. It should not be interpreted as capital already committed to those projects. Similarly, the initial $10 million facility is intended for project preparation rather than construction.
