Ghana Battalion Position in Southern Lebanon Hit by Missile Attack

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that a Ghanaian battalion position serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under missile attack in Southern Lebanon on 6 March 2026.

According to the military, the incident occurred between 1745 and 1752 hours local time amid the ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah in the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces said two soldiers were critically injured, while one other soldier was traumatised. It also disclosed that the Officers’ Mess facility was hit and completely burnt down.

In the statement, the military noted that the injured personnel were receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and were in stable condition, while arrangements were being made for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.

The Armed Forces further assured the public that Ghanaian troops in the area were currently safe and sheltering in underground bunkers due to the fragile security situation.

The statement added that the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had lodged a protest over the incident at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and urged all parties involved in the conflict to uphold their responsibilities regarding the safety of peacekeepers in the theatre.
