In a captivating finale at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, Nigeria secured their third Unity Cup title by defeating Jamaica 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

The Unity Cup, celebrating the rich football heritage of diaspora communities, returned after a 21-year hiatus. The final between Nigeria and Jamaica was a testament to the tournament’s spirit. Moses Simon opened the scoring for Nigeria, but Jamaica’s Kaheim Dixon quickly equalized. Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead, only for Jonathan Russell to level the match again. The game proceeded to penalties, where Nigeria emerged victorious.

Ghana secured third place with a commanding 4-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago. Captain Jordan Ayew led the charge, scoring early and assisting in subsequent goals. Mohammed Fuseini and Lawrence Agyekum also found the net, showcasing Ghana’s dominance.

Beyond the matches, the Unity Cup served as a celebration of cultural identity and diaspora pride. Former Jamaican international Marcus Gayle emphasized the tournament’s role in connecting younger generations to their roots and fostering a sense of belonging through football.
