Morocco have gained a World Cup boost after FIFA approved the international switch of Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, making the teenager eligible to represent the Atlas Lions.

Reuters reported that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation said it had received approval from FIFA’s Players’ Status Chamber for Bouaddi’s change of sporting nationality. Bouaddi was born in France to Moroccan parents and previously represented France at youth level.

The decision gives Morocco another midfield option before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Morocco have been drawn in Group C with Brazil, Haiti and Scotland, according to Reuters.

Bouaddi is regarded as one of Ligue 1’s most promising young midfielders. Reuters reported that he has made more than 90 appearances for Lille across all competitions and became the youngest player to feature in a European club competition match at 16 years and three days.

For Morocco, the approval strengthens a squad already shaped by a blend of domestic talent and diaspora players. The Atlas Lions have built one of Africa’s strongest international programmes by combining tactical organisation, European-based experience and a clear national-team identity.

The immediate question is whether Bouaddi can force his way into Morocco’s final World Cup squad. His eligibility is now confirmed, but final selection remains a separate decision for coach Walid Regragui and the Moroccan technical staff.

Morocco’s group will demand control and discipline in midfield. Brazil bring elite attacking quality, Scotland offer tournament organisation and physical intensity, while Haiti will see the expanded World Cup as a chance to challenge more established sides. Bouaddi’s profile gives Morocco another option in central areas, especially in matches where ball retention and transition defence are important.

The case also reflects a wider trend in African football. Federations are competing more actively for eligible dual-national players raised in Europe, especially before major tournaments. The objective is not only to add names, but to deepen squads with players who have developed in high-level tactical environments.

For Morocco, the timing is the story. Bouaddi is not only a future prospect. FIFA’s decision makes him available before the World Cup, turning a nationality switch into a real selection question.
