Algiers, October 2024 – The CANEX WKND 2024 has officially commenced in Algiers, bringing together key players from Africa’s Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs) for a dynamic four-day event. With a focus on empowering Africa’s creative economy, the event is set to feature vibrant discussions, exciting performances, and significant business networking opportunities, all under the theme: “One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.”

The Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) program, spearheaded by Afreximbank, aims to support the development of Africa’s creative sectors through access to finance, capacity building, market expansion, and policy advocacy. This year’s event builds on the success of CANEX at IATF 2023, which saw 115 industry experts leading discussions, 13 masterclasses, and numerous live performances, including a spectacular fashion show and market exhibition.

Key Highlights of CANEX WKND 2024:

Industry Leadership and Collaboration: The event will feature industry giants, policymakers, and business leaders from across the continent and beyond, discussing ways to bolster Africa’s share in the global creative economy.

Business-to-Business (B2B) and Government Opportunities: The gathering will provide unprecedented opportunities for business collaborations and government engagements, promoting African creative sectors in new global markets.

Live Performances and Cultural Showcases: Expect more than 20 live performances, a high-energy music concert, and a fashion show spotlighting Africa’s unique talent and creativity.

The Importance of CCIs in Africa’s Growth

The Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs) have emerged as powerful drivers of both economic growth and cultural engagement globally, generating income through the commercialization of intellectual property and creating jobs, especially for SMEs. With the rise of digital technology and streaming platforms, the CCIs are fast becoming among the most dynamic sectors of the global economy. However, Africa’s CCI sectors have historically faced constraints, including limited access to capital, unstructured markets, and regulatory challenges.

Afreximbank’s CANEX program seeks to address these barriers by providing the tools and platforms for African creatives to thrive on the global stage. With a strong emphasis on capacity building and trade promotion, the event aims to position African creatives as leaders in innovation and cultural exchange.

Looking Ahead

CANEX WKND 2024 promises to further solidify Africa’s place in the global creative landscape, fostering cross-border collaborations and creating pathways for cultural and economic empowerment. With its focus on unity in diversity, this gathering will showcase Africa’s creative prowess and its ability to lead in global cultural innovation.
