Afreximbank Announces Second Edition of CANEX Shorts Film Competition

Cairo, 9 July 2024 – The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), through its Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme, is excited to announce the second edition of CANEX Shorts, a dynamic short film competition aimed at celebrating the talents of young African creatives.

CANEX Shorts is designed to recognize and honor young filmmakers. Winners will have their work showcased at CANEX WKND 2024 in Algiers, Algeria, from October 16 to 19, 2024. This event offers a unique opportunity for filmmakers to connect with potential investors and partners at the largest gathering of creatives on the continent.

Key Details:

  • Eligibility: Filmmakers aged 18-35, both from Africa and the diaspora.
  • Submission: Films must be no longer than 5 minutes.
  • Categories: Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Animation.
  • Platform: Submit your film via Filmfreeway.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Films must be no longer than 5 minutes.
  2. The filmmaker must be between the ages of 18 – 35.
  3. The filmmaker must own all rights.
  4. Films can be in any language but must be subtitled in English if not in English.

This initiative aims to remove hurdles in the business environment and tackle the capacity constraints of African companies. It supports the transition from local production for local consumption to a model ensuring local production for continental and international export markets.
